The highly coveted Halliday's Wine Companion Award winners for 2021 have been revealed. Wine producers and wine lovers alike eagerly anticipate the book’s release from master wine reviewer, James Halliday. The Bendigo wine region has been recognised with ten wines from five producers awarded 95 points or above.
Sutton Grange Winery was named in Australia’s Top Ten Dark Horses category, with Halliday citing Melanie Chester’s arrival "has seen good wines become even better”. Two of their wines landed in the outstanding category, including their 2018 Estate Syrah – rated Exceptional – 97 points.
Balgownie Estate has been awarded 5 Red Stars and Best Winery in the region. Rating highest was their 2012 Museum Release Bendigo Chardonnay and 2017 Rock Block Bendigo Shiraz.
Sandhurst Ridge Winery was awarded 5 Stars and their 2017 Reserve Bendigo Shiraz achieved 95 points.

The Halliday website states that more than 9,000 wines were reviewed for the 2021 Halliday Awards.
