What’s happening this spring in the Bendigo wine region
By Wes Vine, President Bendigo Winegrowers Ass.
Our vines, and winemakers, had some nice R&R over the winter time and we're ready for the spring growing season.
Spring could be an excellent time for the region's winemakers as solid rainfall in winter has helped to produce good soil moisture and ample base nutrients for the vines to thrive naturally. As long as we don't get any heavy frosts when the new buds burst, we should have an exciting vintage on our hands in 2020.
September may officially mark the start of spring, but I always know the warmer weather is on its way when it begins getting lighter later and my cravings shift from full-bodied shiraz to a light red, rosé or refreshing white.
We’re blessed to have a wide variety of wines styles in the Bendigo region so there’s plenty to choose from no matter what the weather or season. Book a ticket to an event in our upcoming Bendigo Uncorked Week and you’ll have the opportunity to taste so many different wines, from sparkling to rosé, crisp whites to big bold reds.
I invite you to step out and join us this spring either at one or our events or in the vineyard - we’re looking forward to showing you around!
