It's that time of year where you'll find winemakers out in the vineyard harvesting the grapes. Vintage 2018 is currently in full swing in the Bendigo wine region. Each year vintage seems to creep a little earlier and earlier with some winemakers across the region starting to pick in early February. The majority of the wineries in the Bendigo region are boutique and family-run, so most of our grapes are hand picked and the wine is hand-crafted.
There's sensational colour in the red wines, with a lovely depth and concentration of flavours. Winemakers are reporting that they're very pleased with all varieties performing. well.
Some of the white wines of this vintage will be bottled as early as this July whilst the reds will be spending 12 months or more in the barrel.
It's a great time to get out to cellar door and see all the action in the vineyard. And pretty soon you'll be able to sample the final result from the bottle.
