Winter in the vineyards
From Wes Vine, President, Bendigo Winegrowers Association
To say that 2020 hasn’t gone according to plan is an understatement. Here in the Bendigo region, we were just beginning to recover from the summer heat with bushfire smoke in our vineyards, and then the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic arrived.
Most of our winemakers were able to harvest a crop but yields were lower compared to previous years. Even though the volume is less, this doesn’t affect the taste of the wine.
With the hand-picked grapes now settled in their barrels, we’re looking forward to tasting the 2020 vintage.
Most of our cellar doors have re-opened and are welcoming guests again. We’re following health guidelines on cleaning and sanitation, to create the best wine experience we can for you.
Given the social distancing restrictions we ask that you ring your chosen winery to book a wine tasting so that you’re guaranteed a spot in the cellar door.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, our customers, during the lockdown period. Your support by continuing to purchase Bendigo region wines has been incredible and quite humbling.
Best wishes and may there always be a Bendigo Wine on your Table!
