BENDIGO’S Most Popular Wine has been decided and it’s the 2013 Reserve Shiraz from Glenwillow Wines
Bendigo’s Most Popular Wine was decided by nearly 300 patrons at October’s Bendigo Heritage Uncorked event. Patrons were able to sample from 48 different wines on the day, produced by winemakers in the Bendigo wine region and ultimately, they chose Glenwillow’s 2013 Reserve Shiraz as the winner. Glenwillow also won Most Popular Winery.
Bendigo Heritage Uncorked is the city’s wine walk as patrons stroll between seven grand heritage venues tasting Bendigo wine and local food at each location.
Glenwillow’s Peter Fyffe said that winning Bendigo’s Most Popular Wine is very rewarding after all the effort that goes into making each bottle.
“There are fantastic wineries in the Bendigo region so it’s an honour to win.
“We’ve been producing Shiraz, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and the Italian wine, Nebbiolo, for the last 20 years, and are passionate about our grape growing and winemaking.
“Winning Bendigo’s Most Popular Wine has resulted in our winery being swamped with orders. This particular wine also scored 95 out of 100 points in James Halliday’s 2018 Australian Wine Companion.
“This Shiraz is rich and concentrated and full of dark fruit flavours. It has soft, fine tannins which give the wine a smooth, velvety structure. All aspects of this wine are in balance.
“Our wines reflect the place where they are grown, at Yandoit Creek between Castlemaine and Daylesford, and also the season in which they have grown, as no two years are the same.
“The Bendigo region is quite diverse and really does produce great red wines.
“I believe that Bendigo wines are the equal of some of the best in Victoria,” said Mr Fyffe.
Glenwillow’s vineyard was planted in 1999 and produces rich, full flavoured wines that develop beautifully with cellaring. The best way to get your hands on Bendigo’s Most Popular Wine is at Glenwillow’s cellar door, located at the Bendigo Pottery Complex at Epsom, open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or ring Peter Fyffe on 0428 461 076.
